Freak of Nature
Imagine my surprise when I spotted THIS unholy beast in the garage last night!

Here's the thing about this spider: the pictures do not do its size justice. It is seriously the size of a small rodent, an estimated 5+ inches. Ryan agreed with me on this, even though I always exaggerate the size of spiders!!

And on its stomach......BABIES. Anyone else want to throw up?

There was no singing 'itsy bitsy spider' this time around!

The other three members of my family were pretty fascinated. Turns out our little budding scientists wanted to stare at the thing for hours. Oh they are pet deprived, they even had to tell the thing goodnight before bed.
Ryan and the twins made plans to go out to the lake tonight to set it free...I think they may have to go solo. About the time this last picture was taken I started to feel light headed in the beginnings of a mild panic attack! I even dreamed last night the spider emitted some sort of poisonous gas into the jar, plus all its babies had been born when we opened it. I usually don't freak out this much about spiders, but it was the babies that put me over the top. I am seriously disturbed by this one...I guess it's true what they say-everything truly is bigger in Texas!

That is SO Gross! i am totally freaked out! I hope I don't have nightmares tonight!
Great spider! Did you ever find out what kind it is? We just learned about spiders in class today. What a coincidence! I've saved the pictures to my computer to show the kids on Monday. Thanks!
Leslie, that is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo nasty. I can't believe I had to look at that. It grosed me out and there I was with the chills and shivers and shaking my hands all around because it's so disgusting. yeah, I can't even say how disgusting that is. wow. sick. eww.
p.s. don't be offended, but I don't think I'll look at your blog for a while, because I want to make sure that picture is gone.
That was NASTY!!!! I like looking at spiders but that thing is a monster, and the babies freak me out. I am truly sorry you had that in your garage.
Editors note:
After much thought, pondering, and googleing, the barlow committee has concluded that the spider in question is in fact a wolf spider.
Leslie, I am barfing right now and will probably have a nightmare tonight just from seeing a picture of that spider! I thought the small dead scorpion I saw inside our front door would put me over the edge, but that spider tops it by far. You poor thing!!! I love looking at your blog and can't wait to see your new arrival.
xoxoxoxoxoxo and missing you!
I totally cringed when I saw these pictures. I can see the actual size of the spider with your girl looking at it. Crazy. So was it you or your Ryan that caught the thing? I wouldn't dare to go near it without a large can of Raid.
Hopefully there will be no more of those gigantic spiders in your house.
Horrible! I wouldn't want to find it in my garage. I'm glad you were able to "set it free" in the lake.

Are you kidding me?! I thought the spiders here in washington were bad!! I just posted about one. But you for sure have me beat. GROSS!
EEEEECK!!!! Nope, I don't do spiders either. Jarom has found two black widows in the garage now, but those things are dwarfs compared to your Shelob. Oh, I can't stand how gross that is, and those babies... oh my, I don't do spiders.
